Hyperpop Music

What is Hyperpop, its most influential artists and some of my personal favorites

What is Hyperpop?

Hyperpop is a a fast, chaotic music genre that originated in the early 2010s in the UK. It is characterized by an exaggerated or maximalist take on 21st century popular music tropes, often featuring distorted vocals and exaggerated, futuristic production.

The genre typically integrates pop and avant-garde sensibilities while drawing on elements commonly found in electronic, rock, hip hop, and dance music.

Hyperpops biggest influences

Some of hyperpops most influential artists and labels:

PC Music

record label and art collective based in London, founded in 2013 and run by producer A. G. Cook. Known for its surreal or exaggerated take on pop music tropes from the 1990s and 2000s, often featuring pitch-shifted, feminine vocals and bright, synthetic textures.

SOPHIE

British music producer, songwriter, and DJ. Her distinctive style incorporates experimental sound design, “sugary” synthesized textures, and underground dance elements. helped pioneer the 2010s hyperpop microgenre.

100 gecs

American musical duo formed in 2015, their debut album, 1000 gecs, helped to consolidate the eclectic hyperpop style and extremely catchy trap beats processed and distorted to near-destruction, overwrought emo vocals and cascades of ravey arpeggios.

My personal favorites

Jane Remover

American rapper, producer, and singer-songwriter. After coming out as transgender, they released their second studio album, Census Designated, in 2023, a shoegaze and post-rock concept album.

In 2025, they released their third studio album, Revengeseekerz, with influence from digicore, rage, trap, hyperpop and EDM. It is widely regarded as one of, if not the best, electronic music albums released in 2025.

Jane also releases music under 2 side projects:

leroy – side project under which they create sample-heavy EDM mashups. These releases sample a wide range of sounds, including pop songs of the 2010s, viral videos, and even Remover’s own music. They released a series of albums with the name “dariacore“, creating the sub genre dariacore

Venturing – side project that initially started as a fictional indie rock band created by Remover. They released several tracks under the Venturing alias throughout 2022 and 2023, before releasing Arizona, their official debut EP as Venturing, on May 19, 2023. Remover officially announced the project’s debut studio album, Ghostholding, on December 5, 2024.

Glaive

Ash Blue Gutierrez, American rapper and singer-songwriter. Released his debut EP, Cypress Grove, in 2020 which helped popularize the hyperpop genre, with hit songs like Astrid. His debut album, I Care So Much That I Don’t Care at All, a more melancholic emo, pop and rock album, was released in 2023.

His second album, May It Never Falter, was self-released under the Slowsilver03 label 2024. The album showcases Glaive’s sound evolving from hyperpop to noise pop and electronic with elements of emo and marked the start of Glaive becoming an independent musician. It was considered one of the best albums of the year by the editors at Vogue

His third album, Y’all, was released in September 2025. The song “Asheville” was described by Shahzaib Hussain of Clash as “part memoir, part theater”. Hussain also felt that the song “takes his hyper-pop tendencies to the limit, morphing from globular passages to a propulsive four-to-the-floor anthem” and called the album Glaive’s “most dance-driven, maximalist work to date”.
